History

Mission:  Providing education, advocacy, information and professional development to promote the delivery of quality post-acute and long-term care medicine.

History:  Dr. Bill Solomon and Dr. Bob McCartney were two of our founding fathers of CMDA back in the early 1990s. A small group of interested physicians, nurse practitioners, NHAs and pharmacists continued to meet on a monthly basis with the Health Facilities Division of the Colorado Department of Pubic Health and Environment (CDPHE) through the 1990s and into the early 2000+ years. We became a 501(c)3 in 2006.

Several of our Past Presidents have gone on to distinguish themselves nationally at AMDA: Dr. Karyn Leible – a past President of AMDA, Dr. Fred Feinsod – Board of AMDA for many years, Dr. Cari Levy – leading the AMDA futures program for many years. Her publication is found at this link:  http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.jamda.2014.12.011

A number of infectious disease protocols were written with CDPHE collaboration with long term care facilities in mind. To this date their protocol offspring can still be found on the CDPHE website regarding TB, Noro, MRSA, etc.  Health Department Guidelines.
